Total Weather Insurance

Helping Growers Manage Weather Risk

In 2011, growers shared a common hurdle—extreme weather. From flooded fields to extended dry periods and from cold spring temperatures to heat stress, all varieties of extreme weather left their mark on yields and, ultimately, grower profits.

Total Weather Insurance (TWI) Corn 2012™ and TWI Soybean 2012™  from The Climate Corporation  is available to provide unprecedented protection for growers against extreme weather.

TWI is based on target production.  The product helps growers by insuring against bad weather that can cause yield shortfalls, and it is designed to pay out for weather events at higher yields and more frequently than federal crop insurance.  With TWI, payouts are based solely on occurrence of adverse weather; no documentation is required and payouts are independent of MPCI claims.

Based on your location and crop, TWI may include coverage for the below perils:

  • Planting Rain protects against excessive precipitation that can delay timely planting and other fieldwork.
  • Drought with Soil Moisture Tracker™ protects against depleted soil moisture that can limit reproductive success and yields.
  • Daytime Heat Stress protects against hot days that can reduce crop growth and result in yield loss.
  • Nighttime Heat Stress protects against warm nights that may result in diminished kernel growth due to increased respiration.
  • Excess Rain with Soil Moisture Tracker™ protects against excessive local rainfall that can lead to standing water which starves the crop of oxygen and promotes disease.
  • Early Fall Freeze protects against early fall freeze events that may damage plants before full yield potential is realized.
